At Kowal and Son LLC, we now offer precision silver soldering for broken and damaged keys on clarinets and other woodwinds. This lets us repair snapped key arms, cracked levers, and failed solder joints, restoring the original strength and feel of your mechanism instead of replacing the instrument. For vintage and discontinued models where replacement parts are nearly impossible to find, our silver solder repairs can save the original keywork and keep your instrument playing for many more years.
We recently used our silver soldering service to save a 100+ year old, early Bundy-era clarinet with Selmer Paris roots. The instrument’s key had a nearly invisible micro hairline fracture that caused flex and instability, but the original keywork was far too special to replace. By carefully cleaning, aligning, and silver soldering the crack, we preserved the historic key, restored full strength and reliability, and kept this unique clarinet as close to original as possible.
